You may be fed up with your domain name registrar and
want a change, after all, the only constant thing in life is change. Perhaps,
you may have registered many domains through different registrars and you want
all your accounts to be in one place, you are definitely at the right place.
This piece will give you a step-by-step guide if only you can read on.
Buy
and Request Domain Transfer From Your New Registrar: As
soon as you buy a domain transfer from your new registrar, the status of the
domain will be set to ‘Authorization Required’ at your new registrar and they
will also send you an email indicating your ‘Transaction ID’ and ‘Security
Code’. However, some registrars may allow you to keep the remaining time on
your existing registration and, in addition, you may get a free one-year
extension.
Ask
For Authorization Code From Your Present Registrar: You
should then log in to your account at your present registrar and request for
authorization code. However, before you can request for the code, you must turn
off the domain protection.
The
Code Emailed to You: Your present registrar will then send the
authorization code to you via email.
Start
the Process of Transfer at Your New Registrar Using the Authorization Code: You
should then enter the authorization code to complete the process. As soon as
you do this, your new registrar will display the ‘Status’ as ‘Pending Current Registrar
Approval’ and the ‘Recommended Action’ as ‘Accept Transfer at Current
Registrar’.
Email
Notification from Present Registrar: Your present registrar will
then send an email to you confirming your request for transfer. You do not need
to take any action if you still want to proceed with the transfer but if not,
you can follow the link for that purpose in the email to stop the transfer
process.
Transfer
of Domain Completed to New Registrar: Your new registrar will then
send a final confirmation email to you as soon as your present registrar
transfers your domain to the new one. Usually, the transfer process should not
take more than five days, all things being equal.
