You probably heard that Rand Paul paid $100,980 for his name’s domain, RandPaul.com, on March 27th, 2015 in order to boost his campaign for United States’ Presidency which he declared interest in on April 7th, 2015 – if you don’t know, now you know. The domain was actually registered in April 2006 and records showed that it was registered to Fabulous.com, a domain name registration site, which can keep the actual owners of domains anonymous.
If you don’t want to find yourself in the same situation like
Rand, you should register your name’s domain before someone else does – after all,
it is not going to cost you more than $10. In addition, after the registration
of .com extension of your name, you should not forget to register the .org,
.net, .info and other possible extensions that may be suggested to you at the
point of registration. You may think that you are not popular now but by the
time you will, the name may have been taken and you may not get it back or pay
heavily to get it.
Domain name registration is a piece of cake and if you
don’t have any use for it at the moment, you can park it and earn little dough
periodically. Domain parking is an avenue of monetizing an unused domain. When you
park your domain with a service provider, the provider will place adverts on
your site and you will be paid per click. It is better to preserve your domain
this way than just leaving it blank and paying renewal fees every year for it.
Furthermore, you need to deal with a reliable registrar
when registering your name. This is because there are lots of registrars that
do not follow the ethics of the profession. You should choose a competent registrar
with good pricing so that your expense will be reasonable. You don’t have to
wait till you are popular before registering your name’s domain because if
someone else does, you may have to cough out more than you think to get it – if
you will ever get it.
